Recovery Audit Contractor Expansion Halted Temporarily

Two entities recently filed protests with the General Accountability Office (GAO) challenging the processes that CMS used to award the Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) contracts. These entities lost bids to become permanent RACs. According to law, GAO has 100 day to review the protest and must render a decision by early February. As a result, CMS recently announced a delay in the nationwide expansion of the RACs.
